Everyone,
and I mean everyone goes through certain phases of life when things seem to be
coming apart. No matter which way you look at it, things don’t look any better.
We each have
different ways of dealing with these kinds of situations, by keeping it to
ourselves, or relying on friends or family, or as per the times of today, publishing
it on an online space.
But what if,
having done all that, you still feel crummy and not completely satisfied?
Self-pity is
not the answer, neither is comfort food because although it feels good, the
relief is only temporary before reality and the extra calories kick in.
And although
I may not be an expert on the human psyche, or some kind of acclaimed self-help
guru, I do know that at the end of the day, only you can help yourself by doing
something about your dire circumstances.
Fairy-godmothers
do not exist in real life, so if you want to have that magical night with a
certain special someone, do it yourself!
There are innumerable
ways now to get in touch with someone, choose one and go for it!
I read a
very motivating column in the New York Times where the writer was asking for
the next Boston Marathon to happen soon, to send out a message that life will
still go on in all its glory, regardless of adversity. What happened was tragic and devastating but
that should not be the reason to stop public gatherings or generally enjoy what
life has to offer.
Similarly,
shit happens, be miserable and mope for a while, after all we’re only human,
but if you don’t like the way things are, then change it.
No amount of
complaining, crying or cutting yourself off from the rest of the world will
make a difference or solve your problem.
It is amazing
what people are capable of and the accomplishments pulled off in the worst
circumstances possible.
Why should
you wait for a near-death experience or a life-altering event to realise what
is important in life?
At the risk
of sounding cliché, life is way too short for wanting, wishing or hoping that
things will somehow magically become better overnight.
“What doesn’t
kill you makes you stronger...”, goes the Kelly Clarkson song, and as far as I
can tell that is always the case, so use that strength to take that leap of
faith into the unknown.
What’s the
worst that could happen? You fall, maybe get a couple of bruises, but you’ve
been there already, so pick yourself back up and learn to fly again.
Yes, I said
fly, because in the words of a well-loved cowboy doll, flying is nothing but “falling
with style”.
So pick
yourself up and take the risk to fall, you just might learn to fly!
